A) It matches the vessel’s required frequency (e.g., 50Hz or 60Hz)

C) It is lower than the vessel’s frequency

D) It is not important as long as the voltage is correct

Correct Answer: A) It matches the vessel’s required frequency (e.g., 50Hz or 60Hz)

Explanation: Verifying that the frequency of the shore supply matches the vessel's requirements is essential. Mismatched frequencies can lead to equipment malfunction or damage.

Before connecting to shore power, what final check should be made?

C) Ensure the shore power cable is disconnected

B) Verify that all onboard systems are ready to accept shore power, and any non-essential loads are turned off during the connection process to avoid a power surge

A) Ensure the vessel's engines are running

D) Verify the weight of the shore power plug

Correct Answer: B) Verify that all onboard systems are ready to accept shore power, and any non-essential loads are turned off during the connection process to avoid a power surge

Explanation: Ensuring that all onboard systems are ready to accept shore power and that non-essential loads are turned off helps prevent a power surge that could occur when the shore power is connected.

Correct Answer: B) Verify that all onboard systems are ready to accept shore power, and any non-essential loads are turned off during the connection process to avoid a power surge

Why is it important to check the grounding (earth) connection before connecting to shore power?

A) To ensure the shore power cable is long enough

D) To ensure the power is delivered at the correct time

C) To verify the cable’s color coding

B) To confirm the system is safely grounded, preventing potential electric shocks or equipment damage

Correct Answer: B) To confirm the system is safely grounded, preventing potential electric shocks or equipment damage

Explanation: Proper grounding is essential to prevent electric shocks and equipment damage. Checking the grounding connection ensures the safety of personnel and equipment.

Correct Answer: B) To confirm the system is safely grounded, preventing potential electric shocks or equipment damage

Explanation: Proper grounding is essential to prevent electric shocks and equipment damage. Checking the grounding connection ensures the safety of personnel and equipment.

What impact might running a 60Hz vessel on a 50Hz supply have on the vessel’s lighting system?

B) The lights may flicker or operate at reduced brightness due to the lower frequency, leading to potential stress on the lighting components.

A) The lights will be brighter.

C) The lights will operate normally without any issues.

D) The lights will shut off completely.

Correct Answer: B) The lights may flicker or operate at reduced brightness due to the lower frequency, leading to potential stress on the lighting components.

Explanation: Running a 60Hz lighting system on a 50Hz supply can cause the lights to flicker or operate at reduced brightness. This can lead to increased stress on the lighting components and reduced lifespan.

Correct Answer: B) The lights may flicker or operate at reduced brightness due to the lower frequency, leading to potential stress on the lighting components.
