9.Sketch the device which allows a cable to pass through a watertight bulkhead, labelling the MAIN components.(10)

Component Functions:
- Gland Body
- Made of brass or corrosion-resistant alloy.
- Threaded or welded into the bulkhead to provide a rigid, watertight mounting.
- Forms the main housing for the sealing assembly.
- Sealing Bush / Grommet
- Usually neoprene or rubber, compressed tightly around the cable sheath.
- Provides the watertight seal between the cable and the gland body.
- Compression Ring / Cone
- A tapered metallic or nylon ring that compresses the sealing bush when the gland nut is tightened.
- Ensures even pressure around the cable for a gas- and watertight joint.
- Gland Nut (Tightening Nut)
- Screws onto the gland body, forcing the compression ring against the sealing bush.
- Provides mechanical grip and tightens the seal.
- Locknut
- Fits on the opposite side of the bulkhead to secure the gland body in position and maintain compression.
- Cable Sheath
- The gland grips the outer sheath of the cable only (not the conductors) to prevent damage.
- Earth or Bonding Connection (if required)
- Ensures the metallic parts of the gland are electrically bonded to ship’s earth, avoiding static buildup or shock risk.
