- Annex I – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Oil.
- Annex II – Regulations for the Control of Pollution by Noxious Liquid Substances in Bulk.
- Annex III – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Harmful Substances Carried at Sea in Packaged Form.
- Annex IV – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Sewage from Ships.
- Annex V – Regulations for the Prevention of Pollution by Garbage from Ships.
- Annex VI – Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships.
(b) Engines required to comply with NOₓ legislation in MARPOL Annex VI (2 marks)
- All marine diesel engines with a power output greater than 130 kW, installed on ships built on or after 1 January 2000, or which undergo a major conversion after that date, must comply with the NOₓ Technical Code under Annex VI.
(c) Two other pollutants limited by Annex VI (2 marks)
- Sulphur oxides (SOₓ) – regulated by fuel sulphur content limits and Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
- Particulate matter & ozone-depleting substances (e.g. CFCs/Halon).
