
With reference to MARPOL Annex V, garbage record book:
(a) state the type of vessel to which the regulation applies;(1)
(b) list the NINE categories into which garbage is grouped for the purpose of the garbage record book.(9)
(a) Type of vessel to which the regulation applies (1 mark)
- Vessels of 400 GT and above, and
- All ships certified to carry 15 or more persons engaged in voyages to ports or offshore terminals under the jurisdiction of another Party to MARPOL.
(b) Nine categories of garbage for the Garbage Record Book (9 marks)
According to MARPOL Annex V, Regulation 10:
- Plastics
- Food waste
- Domestic wastes (e.g. paper, rags, glass, metal, bottles, crockery)
- Cooking oil
- Incinerator ashes
- Operational wastes (spares, maintenance materials, etc.)
- Cargo residues (non-harmful to the marine environment)
- Animal carcasses
- Fishing gear
