(a) Definitions
(i) Density (2 marks)
- Definition: The mass of a unit volume of fuel at a standard temperature.
- Unit: kg/m³ at 15 °C.
(ii) Viscosity (2 marks)
- Definition: A measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow; indicates ease of pumping and atomisation.
- Unit: cSt (centistokes) at a specified temperature.
(iii) Flash Point (2 marks)
- Definition: The lowest temperature at which fuel gives off sufficient vapour to ignite momentarily when exposed to a flame.
- Unit: °C.
(b) Four other items on a Bunker Delivery Note (4 marks)
- Name and IMO number of the receiving ship.
- Quantity of fuel delivered (in metric tonnes).
- Sulphur content (% m/m), confirming compliance with MARPOL Annex VI.
- Date, place of bunkering, and details of supplier.
