FIVE statutory items the relieving officer shall be informed of before taking over the engineering watch (10 marks – 2 marks each)
- Standing orders of the Chief Engineer – and any special instructions regarding machinery operation.
- State of all running machinery – main engine, auxiliaries, steering gear, boilers, pumps, generators, etc.
- Tank soundings and levels – fuel oil, diesel oil, lube oil, fresh water, ballast, bilge levels.
- Ongoing or outstanding maintenance/repairs or machinery defects – including any equipment out of service.
- Alarms, safety devices, and control system status – any bypassed, isolated, or defective alarms/safety devices.
