Duties of Workers under the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers (10 marks)
1. Duty to take reasonable care (2 marks)
- Workers must take reasonable care for their own health and safety and for the safety of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
2. Duty to co-operate (2 marks)
- Workers must co-operate with the employer, master, and safety officers to enable compliance with statutory obligations and safe working procedures.
3. Duty not to misuse safety equipment (2 marks)
- Workers must not misuse, interfere with, or neglect any safety devices, equipment, or protective clothing provided for their protection.
4. Duty to report hazards and defects (2 marks)
- Workers must report promptly any hazardous conditions, defects in equipment, or unsafe practices to the responsible officer.
