Important Operations in Fire Drills
- Raising the alarm – demonstrate correct operation of fire detection and alarm systems.
- Muster of crew – all personnel report to their designated emergency stations.
- Roll call / accountability – confirm all crew are present and accounted for.
- Assignment of duties – crew practise specific firefighting roles as per muster list (fire party, boundary cooling, support).
- Donning protective clothing and BA sets – demonstrate readiness and safe use of breathing apparatus.
- Rigging fire hoses and nozzles – correct deployment of hoses, testing hydrants and pumps.
- Operation of fire pumps – confirm starting procedures and correct delivery of water.
- Communication practice – effective use of radios/telephones between fire party, bridge, and engine control room.
- Use of fixed firefighting systems – familiarisation with CO₂, foam, or sprinkler system activation procedures (simulation only, no discharge).
- Review and debrief – discuss performance, highlight deficiencies, and record the drill in the logbook.
